A muscle spasm is a very painful and damaging condition in which involuntary movements and contractions of muscles or organs occur suddenly and reappear without previous indication. Patients who have suffered from muscle spasm or who are receiving treatment for muscle spasm complain about the terrible pain which accompanies every involuntary contraction.

Muscle spasms are characterized by appearing suddenly, creating pain, and ceasing after only a couple of minutes and can be caused by a verity of medical conditions and affect people all ages and races regardless of their good health history. A muscle spasm might be triggered by excess stress and anxiety which is the reason why doctors recommend practicing regular exercise and medication techniques as a complement to drug treatment for the prevention of such a condition.

A common and much less painful and serious version of a muscle spasm which temporarily affects many people is known as a colic, which is caused by a sudden contraction and release of energy on a specific organ and which produces the sensation of having to vomit or of extreme nausea.

Many people complain about suffering from colics while performing various forms of physical activity such as running, swimming and hiking, on these cases doctors recommend that the affected person immediately stops whatever activity they are performing and focus on taking deep, regulated breaths to ease the contractions and the pain.
